The Key West Fishing Team of Dream Catcher Charters has the experience and the tools to take you fishing in one of the prettiest areas of Key West and the Florida Keys. The Marquesas Keys, located about 30 miles west of Key West, are a group of circular islands that house all different types of fish species, from bonefish and permit to barracudas and sharks to snappers and grouper. Because of its location, this area due to its proximity is rarely fished so it is still as pristine as it was hundreds of years ago. And, with surrounding ship wrecks and shallow reefs surrounding the islands, you can combine a couple different types of fishing into one day trip: flats and backcountry fishing as well as bottom fishing the wrecks and reef. You may even want to throw on a mask and snorkel to experience the underwater beauty of the area too.
This is a favorite time of year for us because of the many different types of species available. Barracuda, Sharks, Jacks, Trout, Bluefish, Snapper, Grouper, and Permit can all be caught on a single day. Keep in mind that winds this time of year do tend to be a bit gusty so the crossing of Boca Grande Channel can be a bumpy one.
This time of year is Tarpon season so that would be our main focus as they migrate through the Keys. The wrecks will also hold a huge number of permit as this is the time of year that they spawn offshore. Shark fishing is also very good during this time.
The summer months bring the big three (baby tarpon, bonefish, and permit). This is typically a very calm time of year weather wise so fly fishermen should take advantage of the fair winds and many shots of these trophy fish.
