When to Fish

Winter - Spring (December – May) – This time is typically considered prime time for deep sea fishing in Key West. Kingfish, Wahoo, Tuna and Sailfish are the most popular species targeted during these months. Bottom fishing is also awesome and long runs are not needed this time of the year due to the huge numbers of baitfish hanging out at the reef. It can be a bit windy during these months but that is a good thing for the most part as the bite heats up with rougher seas.

Spring – Summer (May – September)

Dolphin are the primary focus this time of year as they are both plentiful this time of year and a great food fish. This is also the time of year when your chances for hooking a Marlin are best. Bottom fishing the reef for yellowtails is also very productive during these months while the deeper waters hold other cooler water species too. The winds are normally  very calm during this period.

Fall (September – December)

This is a transitional period of time for the offshore fishing.  There may still be some Dolphin or Bonita hanging around the waters but they are typically far out and very small although still fun to catch. With the start of November we start to see the wahoo and tuna fisheries heat back up. But your best chances for catching fish during this time will be bottom fishing the wrecks and reef as it really gets going as we start getting our cold front and the waters cool off.
